FileMaker, Inc. today announced the availability of FileMaker Mobile 2 Companion ($49) for Palm OS devices. FileMaker Mobile 2 allows users to transfer and synchronize data between FileMaker Pro 5.5 v2 databases on Mac OS X, Mac OS and Windows desktop computers and Palm OS handhelds.

According to FileMaker, with FileMaker Mobile 2 users can transfer up to 50 fields per record from a desktop FileMaker Pro 5.5 v2 database to a Palm OS handheld. In addition, FileMaker Mobile 2 gives users six new ways to enter data on Palm OS handhelds: Pop-Up Menus, Pop-Up Lists and single Check Boxes can be transferred from a desktop database; phone numbers in the Palm OS Address Book may be inserted directly into FileMaker Mobile 2; a new Date and Time Picker makes entering those types of data faster and more accurate; and the new Note feature allows certain fields to expand to fill the handheld screen, making data entry easier.

The company said FileMaker Mobile 2 also makes it easier to view and navigate mobile data with Columnar list viewing, which lets users lock down a first column of data, and reorder and resize columns, with a few taps. In addition, Sony CLIE and HandEra 330 users can navigate through FileMaker Mobile 2 forms using the handheld's Jog Wheel or Jog Dial.
