debitel, Europe's largest network-independent telephone company and Germany's third largest mobile communication provider is slated to begin working with Handspring to market the Treo 270 throughout Germany.

Through this arrangement, the parties said they anticipate that debitel will sell Treo 270 with mobile phone contracts for T-Mobile, D2 Vodafone and E-Plus networks at an average retail price of EUR 499. debitel intends to market the Treo 270 mainly in combination with their "Business-tariff" and has made the product available in a promotion to business customers. Over one hundred debitel retail locations in Germany are expected to make Treo 270 available.

The companies claim the Treo 270 is the first Palm OS compact communicator for integrated voice and data communications to be sold in Germany and debitel hopes it will provide it with a competitive advantage to target business customers and power mobile phone users. The product combines a telephone and an organizer with Internet and messaging applications in a single device.
