By James Miller
iAnywhere, the steward of the free AvantGo service, which delivers personalized mobile content to handhelds, has created a new channel for AvantGo called the Pocket Adventure Guide. According to the company, the Pocket Adventure Guide channel provides users with detailed information about ski/snowboard resorts and mountain bike trails throughout the United States. iAnywhere said it combines up-to-the-minute snow reports from Snocountry.org and biking updates from Gorp.com, while delivering articles, tips, current conditions and top picks for outdoor sports destinations to a user's PDA or smartphone. In addition to delivering snowboarding, skiing and lift conditions at ski resorts across the U.S., the Pocket Adventure Guide features information on mountain biking trails across the country, including trail length, state park information and driving directions. The channel is sponsored by Honda, which expects to reach potential customers via the service, and its CR-V vehicle. Ann Palmer, who is responsible for online advertising and new media at American Honda, said "the AvantGo Pocket Adventure Channel enables us to reach prospective buyers when they are out having fun and open to learning more about the CR-V, something that can't easily be accomplished with traditional online advertising." iAnywhere said AvantGo currently has a registered user base of more than 10 million.
