SmartPhoneToday > News > Tiny Smartphone Casualty of Merger Tiny Smartphone Casualty of Merger
By James Alan Miller As often happens in these situations, several handsets formally supported by AT&T are no longer available from the carrier—although some are still sold by Cingular. One such casualty appears to be the Audiovox SMT5600, which created quite a stir at its introduction in October because of its diminutive size. The Audiovox is the world's smallest smartphone based on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile platform. It measures 4.25 x 1.8 x 0.6 inches and weighs a measly 3.6 ounces. It no longer appears on the AT&T Wireless website, and it has not made its way to Cingular's online store. As Brighthand reports, it looks like the combined companies will only support one Windows Mobile smartphone, the Motorola MPx220. That’s bad news for Microsoft, which competes against the Palm platform—with the top-selling smartphone in the United States, the Treo 600—and Symbian (the worldwide market leader) for people’s smartphone dollars.
