By James Alan Miller
Over the past year palmOne has taken its products directly to the people with the opening of a series of Cafés. At these locations, you can't buy coffee or lattés, but you will find palmOne handhelds, accessories and software. With the success of its Cafés—sales growing a reported 595 percent this year—and the smartphone market expected to soar over the next five years, palmOne decided to fine-tune the types of products sold at its newest store by limiting the establishment to Treo smartphones and accessories. Opened this week at the Valley Fair mall in San Jose, California, the Treo Store aims to compliment the already high demand for the company's Treo 600 and 650 smartphones. Treos are the most popular handsets in the nascent U.S. smartphone market. palmOne's MPV of eCommerce and Accessory Solution John Hartnett said, "To support this level of interest, the new Treo Store offers an attractive and comfortable environment where potential customers can interact with and buy Treo smartphones and a wide range of software and accessories. As with palmOne's other stores, Hartnett asserts the Treo Store features a "high-quality brand experience and is staffed by expert consultants who educate customers about palmOne solutions." For shoppers used to uniformed salespeople at computer superstores and electronic shops, that alone may make the Treo Store worth checking out. Related Links:
