Last month, AT&T Wireless began offering the Audiovox SMT5600 Windows Mobile smartphone—previously only available in Europe—on its GSM/GPRS network. Earlier this week, we reported that the world's smallest smartphone based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile platform appeared to be a casualty of the carrier's merger with Cingular Wireless.

Turns out the combined company will still support the 4.25 x 1.8 x 0.6 inch and 3.6-ounce handset after all.

Cingular Wireless' Director of Media Relations Ritch Blasi told Brighthand today that "the device is alive and well and being sold in most of AT&T Wireless retail outlets (even though they have been rebranded Cingular), through our business sales channel, and select indirect channels, such as Amazon and letstalk.com."

When it passes Cingular's certification process, it will then also become available through the operator's website and other sales channels.
