SplashID 3.0 Secures Personal Information

SplashData has upgraded SplashID to version 3.0. SplashID is an application that maintains personal identification information, such as user names, passwords, credit card numbers, calling card numbers, bank account data, PINs, and medical insurance information, on Palm OS handhelds and both Windows and Macintosh desktop computers.

According to SplashData, it focused its efforts on personalization and simplification with SplashID 3.0. For example, while users had the ability to select from the program's library of icons to graphically represent each record, SplashID now provides support for custom icons. These icons can be purchased from third-party vendors or created using applications such as Icon Manager, software that enables users to create and edit icons for use with SplashID and other applications such as DateBk and Agendus.

Users can also now assign records to categories for filtering purposes, such as "Personal" or "Business," and pre-select which columns will be displayed based on the type of records being viewed. In addition, they can create an unlimited number of templates with pre-defined field labels for different information types such as "Credit Card Numbers" and "Web Logins" while customizing field labels on a per-record basis.

According to SplashData, other new features include enhanced security. Many people, especially those in data-sensitive industries, are forced by policy to regularly change their passwords. These passwords often require a certain number of letters and numbers and it can be difficult to constantly create memorable pass-codes. SplashID simplifies this process by auto-generating codes that meet the user's specific criteria. Another new security feature allows users to specify which fields they wish to mask so that contents (such as a password or credit card number) cannot be easily viewed by other individuals while SplashID is being used on a handheld or desktop computer. Furthermore, SplashID will now automatically create an encrypted back-up of the SplashID desktop database.

SplashID 3.0 for Palm OS and Windows should be available in February for $29.95. Current users can upgrade for $9.95. Mac OS Desktop software is slated for March.
