ACCESS has released version 3.1 of its NetFront browser for Symbian devices that run the UIQ 2.x interface, such as Sony Ericsson's P900 and P800 smartphones. Features of NetFront v3.1 include Smart-Fit Rendering and Rapid-Render, two technologies that aims to improve the quality and speed of the browsing experience on mobile devices. Smart-Fit Rendering intelligently renders Web pages to fit the screen width of handsets, eliminating the need for horizontal scrolling. Rapid-Render progressively renders and displays Web page content with the goal of Web experience for mobile users. NetFront v3.1 also support up to ten tabbed Web pages to make it easier to gather and compare Web pages. Other features in NetFront v3.1 for UIQ 2.x provides support for user defined shortcuts, configurable caching options, text-only views, customizable style sheets and downloading of images.
Back in the Spring of 2002, ACCESS joined the Symbian Platinum Program for the purpose of developing and promoting NetFront for Symbian smartphones. In February of this year, the company updated the browser for Series 60 based Symbian smartphones.
