SmsSpamKiller is a new application from SymbianWare that aims to stop junk SMS messages on Series 60 smartphones. This is the first application of its kind for Symbian-based mobile handsets
According to SymbianWare, SmsSpamKiller ($9.95) analyzes each incoming message as it arrives, checking and filtering it if it is suspected to be a junk message. The software uses filters to customize what messages are filtered out.
Unwanted messages are automatically deleted and you can create a Friends List. The application also supplies a Log.
While rival platforms, such as the Palm OS and especially Windows Mobile are expected to gain market share and contribute to the rise of smartphones, the Symbian operating system currently dominates the nascent smartphone market. This is especially true in Europe where many more smartphones have been sold than the United States.
Within the Symbian market segment, smartphones that use Nokia's Series 60 platform are by far the most widely deployed.
