Mobile Reference to Help Fight Cancer

Although there a numerous solutions doctors can purchase to mobilize their medical practices (see PDAs Assist Doctors at Point-of-Care), the American Cancer Society would like to offer physicians a free mobile application to help fight the spread of cancer.

Due early next year, C-Tools for Palm OS and Pocket PC PDAs and smartphones will provide instant access to important cancer-related health information. With it, doctors and their staffs should be better prepared to prevent, diagnose and treat the dreaded disease.

Features of C-Tools include a guide to detecting cancer in children; a pain medication dictionary; a drug calculator; directions on how to communicate with patients about diagnosis; screening guidelines; prostate specific antigen information; a BMI calculator for adults; as well tools for managing symptoms, tobacco cessation, and screening for skin cancer.

Physicians, the American Cancer Society's National Health Promotions Review Board and additional cancer education professionals developed and reviewed all clinical content for the software.

Healthcare professionals can sign up to be notified of C-Tools release through the American Cancer Society's website.
