MPrint for BlackBerry
Brother International has introduced BlackBerry printing software and a software development kit (SDK) for its MPrint MW-140BT mobile printer ($399), which connects to wireless devices via Bluetooth. The new Brother MPrint software allows users to print from BlackBerry Messages, Tasks, and Calendar on A7 size (4.1” x 2.9”) MPrint paper. The Brother MPrint SDK for Blackberry devices provides the tools for software developers to integrate MW-140BT printing into their mobile BlackBerry applications.

According to Brother, there are as many MPrint mobile applications as there are vertical markets. Doctors can use it to provide hard copy backups for electronic prescriptions. Visiting nurses can quickly print out home healthcare instructions for patients and care givers. Field maintenance personnel can print repair reports and certified inspection stickers. And field sales people can print up-to-the-minute business quotes, customer receipts, product information, and order confirmations.

SuperWaba
Open source development platform for PDAs and Smartphones has been upgraded to version 5.5. With SuperWaba, you can create applications for Palm, Symbian, Pocket PC, and Linux devices.

New features of SuperWaba include:

  •  ARM VM for Palm OS 5 devices, leading to speed improvements from 10 to up to 40 times.
  •  SuperWaba now runs fine on Symbian 7.0s (Nokia 6600, etc).
  •  Synchronization API now ported to Pocket PC, using RAPI. The same API/program is used for both Palm OS and Pocket PC.
  •  Faster PDBDriver (version 3.0). Now it stores many database rows in a single pdb record. Added support for storage tables in the memory card of Palm OS.
  •  Added a complete Sales Force Automation sample (superwaba.samples.app.sales). With it you will learn the correct way to create SuperWaba programs.

    calcPad
With calcPad for Pocket PC ($9.95), calculations are listed consecutively to simulate the paper tape of the tried and true desk calculator. Each calculation process may easily be followed and can be changed retroactively. The user can move through the calculation by scrolling and change the data, upon which calcPad corrects its result immediately.

CalcPad can deal with words too. So single positions may be annotated if desired and results may be summarized and analyzed in a paragraph. Developer SFR GmbH says this feature is especially advisable if calculations should be continued over a long period or if they contain many individual positions.

Calculations built by calcPad may be saved as text-files and may be printed with comments.

    Nice Office Wireless
eAgency's Nice Office Wireless is now available for Windows Mobile Pocket PCs and Smartphones. It was previously obtainable only for RIM BlackBerry devices and willsoon ship for Palm Treos as well.

Designed for the small-to-medium business market, Nice Office Wireless features complete wireless synchronization of sales and customer data, industry data, along with e-mails, calendar information, appointments, and contacts.

Nice Office users receive their leads and customer inquiries along with all of their remaining data, including previous activities and sales, without cradling or connecting the device. By automatically integrating key events such as appointments, calls, letters, and emails, directly into the Nice Office On-Demand CRM system, eAgency users can improve the data on activity, while eliminating the need to complete weekly activity reports.

    Nintendo DS Wi-Fi
Nintendo has released its USB-based Wi-Fi Connection hardware for the Nintendo DS handheld game system. This is for those who don't have Wi-Fi, but do have broadband. They can use this USB dongle to connect directly to the cable or DSL modem.

It costs extra, and the network is not going to work for those with dial-up Internet access (DS has Wi-Fi built in for the rest of us with Wi-Fi in our homes, offices, and favorite cafes, though hotspots will probably have to be Nintendo partners.) The DS Wi-Fi service will launch in the U.S. on November 14, with games coming that day or later in December and in early 2006.

The first four DS games with Wi-Fi support are Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing: Wild World, Metroid Prime Hunters, and Tony Hawk's American Sk8land. Service is free for Nintendo's own games (the first three listed), but there could be charges from third party publishers to get online access to others (such as American Sk8land).

    I'm InTouch
Pocket PC users can leverage 01 Communique Laboratory's I'm InTouch to use an Internet connection to take full desktop control of a PC remotely in real-time. They securely login to their PC running the I'm InTouch service using their Web browser, upon which and can use their proprietary business applications, check and send e-mail and access their networks.

Version 5.0 adds remote printing, giving users the ability to print any document on their remote computer to their local printer. A practical illustration is someone remotely accessing and working on a business accounting application from the convenience of his or her home computer and wishing to print a report to their home printer.

I'm InTouch goes for $99.95 annually or $9.95 per month. It is also available for BlackBerry and Palm devices.

    SafeGuard PDA
Version 4.0 of authentication and encryption application SafeGuard PDA from Utimaco Safeware AG is now compatible with Symbian smartphones. SafeGuard PDA blocks any unauthorized attempts to access stored data.

Highlights of SafeGuard PDA 4.0 include user authentication via password, symbol or number code; a secure screen saver; and support for telephone calling without additional logon. Forgotten passwords can be reset centrally via SafeGuard's emergency mechanism.

Also available for Windows Mobile, SafeGuard PDA provides encryption not only for files and directories, but also for internal databases used in Personal Information Management (PIM), such as e-mails, SMS, tasks and events.

IT managers can set up password guidelines and encryption and security rules for company handhelds centrally, then implement them throughout the organization.

    Pictavision
Pictavision 5.0 from dotPhoto, wants to make it easy for consumers to instantly upload their pictures from their camera phone to the Internet. The company asserts Pictavision requires no more technical skill than being able to press a camera phone’s “OK” button.

Users simply point and shoot, hit OK and their pictures, videos, and voice captions are instantly uploaded to dotPhoto, where a personal account is automatically created and where the photos are stored forever. Pictures can be published in a wide variety of formats, including traditional prints, merchandise, or in the dotPhoto Show, a multimedia presentation.

Pictavision also lets the user attach voice narration to their photos and videos to their camera phone images. It is available to carriers operating on both BREW and Java platforms.

    N-Gage store
