Bitstream's ThunderHawk browser, a popular alternative to Windows Mobile's Pocket Internet Explorer, is now available Nokia's S60 – formally Series 60 - platform. The innovative application was one of the first mobile browsers to let you view a web page in landscape mode as well as wrap text to reduce scrolling.
ThunderHawk S60 Edition complies with Symbian interface guidelines while offering the same features and functionality as the Pocket PC and Smartphone editions, including a browsing experience, Bitstream asserts, is not too dissimilar to a desktop; such as the ability to move between "full screen" and "split screen" viewing modes and re-establish a dropped connectionalong with any data a user enteredimmediately.
Along with public Web site access, ThunderHawk Enterprise Edition enables organizations and employees using S60 devices to view applications behind the corporate firewall, including intranet and database information using 128-bit encryptionthough the purchase of a in-house ThunderHawk server and as many user licenses as needed.
ThunderHawk is sold using a subscription model. It goes for $49.95 per year or $5.95 per month. Bitstream offers a free 30-day trial of the browser.
Be aware that Bitsteam has some specific system requirements for the browser, such as a phone with a 176 x 208 pixel display and color depth that is 16 bits or greater. The company lists currently supported smartphones on its Web site.
