Handheld software developer SplashData updated its Palm platform money manger, SplashMoney, to version 4.0 this week. With the new edition users can now download their most recent banking account activities through a wireless connection.

SplashMoney offers two-way synchronization between a handheld and a bundled desktop application, both of which can also be used standalone. It also records transactions, tracks account balances, generates reports and budgets, and, of course, manages finances.

Beyond those functions SplashData said the new edition delivers a streamlined user-interface, charting of financial data, the ability to assign icons to transactions, transaction filtering, and improved bank account reconciliation.

palmOne, the largest Palm OS licensee, views SplashMoney as a way to maximize its Treo smartphones.

The company’s eMarketing business development manager Stephen McDonnell asserted “SplashMoney 4.0, with its simple-to-use wireless capabilities for online banking makes Treo smartphones an even greater choice for those with on-the-go lifestyles.”

SplashMoney 4.0 sells for $29.95. You can upgrade from earlier editions for $9.95. It uses Blowfish encryption for secure password protection.
