By Eric Grevstad Plenty of consumers use Cingular's EDGE data network to check e-mail and browse the Web from their mobile phones. Now, businesses looking for more enterprise-class wireless messaging can buy Good Technology's GoodLink software and service via Cingular. The carrier is the first wireless cellular company in North America to offer GoodLink directly to its B2B clients. Working with both Palm OS handhelds such as the Treo 650 and Windows Mobile devices such as the Siemens SX66, GoodLink from Cingular provides continuous, two-way, no-docking-cradle synchronization of all Microsoft Outlook functions, including e-mail, calendar, contacts, notes, and tasks. The Outlook-like client works with a GoodLink server to offer what Good calls Secure Over-the-Air device management and administration with end-to-end AES (define) data encryption and remote password management and data wipe if a handheld is lost or stolen. Cingular says GoodLink couples its powerful data network with a combination of security, ease of use, and device choice (i.e., alternatives to the BlackBerry brand; Good has announced plans to add Nokia Symbian support later this year). After buying a $1,500 one-year starter pack and one-time, $99-per-user client license, the service costs $44.99 per month for unlimited data with a qualified Cingular voice plan. Related Links:
