DataViz has released a version of its mobile Office suite, Documents To Go, for Symbian operating system phones running the UIQ interface. The most popular handsets running these platforms are Sony Ericsson's P800/P900/P910 smartphones.

With Documents To Go, well known in the Palm world, consumers can use, edit and create native Microsoft Word and Excel files as well as view PowerPoint files. It is also the first version of the software to incorporate DataViz' new InTact Technology.

The company asserts InTact ensures complete document integrity when Microsoft Office files are opened and edited by users on mobile platforms, eliminating the need for conversion or desktop computer synchronization. Any edits are intelligently merged with a file's existing formatting to create an updated document that can be e-mailed or exchanged with others directly from the smartphone.

"With critical documents being shared across a variety of platforms, the importance of document integrity is becoming all the more evident," asserts DataViz's Dan Tu. With the application, users "can exchange proposals, sales reports and other important files with colleagues while in the field, and do so confidently knowing all formatting and file attributes will remain," Tu added.

In addition to InTact, Documents To Go for UIQ supports embedded images and tables in Word files, plus the ability to view and edit existing comments, footnotes and endnotes in Word files. There's also the ability to handle a11 of the most commonly-used Excel functions, five-way Jog Dials, tap scrolling, full-screen views and TrueType fonts.

The English of the UIQ edition Documents To Go is available now for $49.99. Localized French and German editions should ship later in the second quarter. Users of competitor’s Office solutions can upgrade for $29.99.
