By James Alan Miller
WorldMate is the Swiss Army Knife of mobile travel software. The 2005 Professional Edition is now available for Symbian operating system smartphones with the UIQ interface.
UIQ smartphones include the Sony Ericsson P910a, P900, and P800 plus a few devices from a Motorola and Benq. The most significant addition to the application is real-time flight status updates from OAG. Also, the software's developer, MobiMate, says the new edition is a complete overhaul of the previous version, with a more user-friendly user interface and improved graphics.
In addition to real-time flight status updates—providing information delays and other real-time details—the updated application delivers a world clock, global weather forecasts (provided by The Weather Channel), flight schedules, plus currency and measurement converters and more.
WorldMate 2005 Professional Edition for UIQ sells for $74.95. It is also available for the RIM BlackBerry, Windows Mobile Pocket PC & Smartphone, Symbian Series 60 & Series 80, and Palm platforms. A few months ago, WorldMate became the first application to become an all platform bestseller for mobile software retail giant Handango. Not only that, it achieved this distinction across multiple categories. So WorldMate landed in the top ten for Handango's Travel, Business & Professional, and Personal Productivity categories for the Palm, Windows Mobile, Symbian UIQ, Symbian Series 60, Blackberry, Nokia Series 80 Communicators, and J2ME environments.
