Socket Communications stated selling a new Secure Digital (SD) Wi-Fi card, the Go Wi-Fi! E300, this week.

The $89 perpheral's tiny 40 millimeter length makes it the smallest Wi-Fi card for handhelds yet, much tinier than the company's previous offering. It weighs a mere 4 grams.

Wi-Fi! E300 bundles Socket's Wi-Fi Companion software application, a utility that helps users find, connect and manage Wi-Fi networks. It can find available Wi-Fi networks and performs network ping and trace route functions.

Additional features include:

Automatic Power Saving Mode balances battery life and throughput speed

Hardware level encryption WPA (AES) support

Open 40/64 and 128-bit WEP encryption, 802.1x authentication with EAP-TLS or PEAP

Works with WPA and WPA-PSK on the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition platform as well as on the original Windows Mobile 2003 with ROM upgrade (some devices)

Can handle infrastructure WLAN and Ad Hoc peer-to-peer connectivity

Let's users ActiveSync wirelessly

LED on the card shows WLAN connection status

Supports voice over Wi-Fi feature with Skype software

The new WLAN card provides data transfer rates up to 11Mbps, with range and throughput optimized by Dynamic Scaling to 5.5,2. and 1 Mbps. It works at up to 300 feet in standard office environment.
