By James Alan Miller
The Star Trek is supposed to be the thinnest clamshell Window smartphone yet, at only 0.6 inches thick when closed. According to a Business Week article, the Star Trek went through three iterations before HTC president Peter Chou approved the fourth one for release.
The ultra-slim quad-band GSM/EDGE Start Trek, designed to compete with the likes of the RAZR, also sports a 200 MHz TI OMAP 850 processor, Bluetooth 1.2, microSD slot, 1.3 megapixel camera, 64 MB of flash memory, a 2.2-inch 240 x 320 (QVGA) pixel resolution display, and an external color display. Reports say it'll ship soon in Europe. The Business Week story says Cingular Wireless signed up to offer the Star Trek in the U.S. It should also ship under the Qtek and i-mate as well as under carrier brand names. HTC is the company that built Compaq's early iPAQs, the first really successful Microsoft-based handhelds. It also built the first Windows smartphones and is responsible for more Pocket PC Phones and Windows smartphones - 80 percent - than any other ODM. Related Links:
