High Tech Computer (HTC) is planning to follow up the Star Trek, available in U.S. since September from Cingular as the 3125, with a similar-looking model that adds - at the least - a GPS (global positioning system) chip to the current device's mix of features.
Star Trek is perhaps the thinnest and most RAZR-like Windows Mobile Smartphone currently on the market. The flip phone, which has received kudos from most quarters, debuted in Asia and is also available in Europe under a variety of banners.
Because it’s so earlier, nothing else is really known about this smartphone, other than its possible codename: Erato.
We can speculate, however, that Erato may add a higher resolution camera than the Star Trek's 1.3 megapixel type; high-speed 3G HTMS/HSPDA cellular data networking (the current model tops out 2.5G EDGE technology; and, just maybe, Microsoft's next-generation mobile operating system codenamed Crossbow.
Among other improvements, Crossbow is supposed to deliver the ability to edit – and not just view - Microsoft Office documents on a Windows Mobile Smartphone for the first time.
