You are correct
You are correct - if an item is tendered for sale - the seller MUST accept U.S. currency. ...and there is no need to sue, it's a CRIME, just report it as such. This protection even extends to merchants who post signs like "No bills over $20 accepted." They STILL have to accept $50s and $100s. I'll be interested to see what the DOJ says about this...

All Debts Public and Private
"Legal tender for all debts public and private" is printed on all of my currency. I read an article once about an insurance agent who had his doors closed by the treasury department for not accepting cash. I don't much care about the iPhone, but I do care that Apple is undermining the structure of the US monetary system with a move like this. I hope the treasury and justice departments jump on this and levy fines large enough to discourage any other company or corporation from ever even considering such a slime-ball move.

Iphone fascists
Look, I don't want anybody to tell me that I am required to pay the banks money to use my debit card, or to incur more debt by using a credit card. Cash is legal tender for ALL payments and it is summarily illegal for Apple to refuse it. Someone should sue their pants off.

cant be legal
US currency is legal tender...and legally must be accepted as payment for all debts, as are stamps by the way. It is against the law to not accept cash for a purchase. Checks are another thing but Apple must accept cash for a purchase. If I wanted an IPhone ( I dont) I would sue. I like Apple, very kool stuff but they are flat wrong if they think they are bigger than uncle sam.

Tender
I think you're correct about cash as legal tender and a company can not pick and choose what it accepts. Though not many people are ballers who buy the iPhone with cash I believe. They really shouldn't try and make doing business with them difficult. However has anyone considered that maybe Apple's iPhone is in the same boat as Microsoft XBox 360, which cost so much in development that it loses money on every sale; however expected to make the money back through game sales and XBox Live accounts?
