Shoot Aliens in Real World with Treo Camera

Arcade Reality from Toyspring is a novel Palm OS game that allows you to shoot unreal aliens in the real world. It superimposes the space invaders onto a Treo's screen over the output of the smartphone's camera.

Aliens, monsters and ships can move in any direction, even behind you. Toyspring says when you turn around the game calculates your motion based on what the camera sees, updating the game view accordingly. So in this game motion is key; no sitting around with Arcade Reality.

Toyspring recently updated Arcade Reality, which sells for $14.95, to version 1.1. It includes the following improvements:

  •  Much improved aliens explosions
  •  Aliens which are almost dead (one laser shot to kill) show their damage by emitting smoke
  •  Autotargetting option - makes the ship or RC rocket automatically turn toward the target when there is a green targeting rectangle (this is meant as a way to make the asteroids mode easier)
  •  You can use the treo side button to fire
  •  Reverse up/down controls option
  •  Asteroids mode game space is now slightly smaller and therefore easier
