Minor correction
The component of Mac OS X called 'Darwin' is based on FreeBSD, among other things. It is not based on Linux. If Darwin were to include any nontrivial amount of code from Linux, then Apple would have to be distribute it under the terms of the GPL, which they do not do. (They do make the source code available, but under a different open source license, the APSL.)

Good concept, wrong tilt. I think Palm would find a real market with a "throwaway laptop"--something which performs basic applications; can be stuffed in a bag for occasional use; and ties to the Web, but if broken, is not a serious financial blow. Hopefully, it has the sturdiness of at least a DS Lite, a good Linux shell, and even better, if it has a cool look. There would be an amazing market at a $400 price point.
