A new version Quickoffice Premier or the Symbian OS with the UIQ 3 interface is now available. Quickoffice 4.0 offers complete editing support for Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, without compromising data integrity or formatting, according to the company that produces QuickOffice, which happens to be called QuickOffice as well. The software can now handle larger-sized documents, supports more complex spreadsheet formulas and sports more advanced editing capabilities than before. The last is supposed to give users more control over formatting, graphics and text when revising documents on their smartphones. So, for example, user can now make graphical changes within presentations, such as inserting, deleting, moving and rotating objects. With the addition of Quickmanageran on-device, e-commerce portal, users can receive software updates over-the-air. Quickoffice Premier 4.0 for the Symbian OS and UIQ 3 interface goes for $49.95. Compatible smartphones include Sony Ericsson's M600, M600i, P1, P1i, P990, P990i, W950 and W960i, as well as Motorola's MOTO Z10 and MOTO Z8. Sony Ericsson sold half of UIQ Technology to Motorola for an unspecified sum late last year, less than a year after it had bought the company from Symbian. Under the terms of their agreement, Motorola and Sony Ericsson will work together and jointly invest in the development of UIQ as an open user interface platform.
Like many mobile office suites, QuickOffice started life on the Palm OS and is also available for Symbian-run smartphones with Nokia's S60 interface.
