By James Alan Miller
YouMail's free Visual Voicemail Plus software is now available at the Android Market for 'gPhones' like the T-Mobile G1. It is a version of the same program BlackBerry and iPhone users can already download at the BlackBerry App World and Apple App Store, respectively.
The native Android app enables users to see and play their YouMail voicemail, so they can always know who is calling through caller-ID, even for phone numbers that aren't in a user's address book. Users can also read their messages as well as save voicemail for as long as they like, recover accidentally deleted messages, and organize voicemails on their phone.
In addition, YouMail's Visual Voicemail Plus app is connected to the full YouMail desktop service, which gives users finer control at managing their messages. For instance, the desktop service allows users to choose to pick up voicemail from their phone, desktop PC, Outlook or web e-mail, even when there's no data connection to their phone or it is in the charger. Users can also decide who can leave a message. So they're able to automatically ditch blocked/unknown callers, telemarketers by caller id, or even callers other users have indicated are spammers. Lastly, the desktop services enables YouMail users to greet every caller by name with just one click, create special greetings for every caller, and record or select from a large set of user-supplied greetings on the YouMail site Visual Voicemail Plus comes with the basic YouMail service. Transcription services are available as a premium, however. A year's worth of transcriptions is valued at $329.99.
