The PPC 4100 is a tri-band (850/1800/1900 MHZ) GSM/GPRS mobile handset, a first from Audiovox, that runs on the Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC operating system and not the Second Edition of Windows Mobile announced back In March. So users probably won’t be able to switch between landscape and portrait modes on its 3.5 inches QVGA 240x320 resolution display.
It is powered by a 400 MHz, Intel XScale processor and has 64MB of RAM and 64 of ROM as well as a Secure Digital expansion slot. Since it doesn't include Bluetooth, users will need a headset with wires. The PPC 4100 weighs 5.57 ounces and measures 4.29 x 2.70 x 0.85 inches.
The Pocket PC phone delivers the usual array of Windows Mobile applications, including Pocket Word and Excel as well as the mobile edition of Windows Media Player. Also, using Exchange Server 2003, or AT&T Wireless alliance solutions such as GoodLink from Good Technology, enterprise users can get up-to-date e-mail synchronization.
For mobile professionals, the PPC 4100 coupled with AT&T Wireless' Office Online solution provides wireless access to work e-mail, calendar and contacts and the ability to receive alerts when important e-mail arrives.
Other features include an Inbox that integrates short message service or SMS messages in the Contacts database and displays the sender's name if there is a match. There is also improved phone mute and volume control over Audiovox's previous Pocket PC phone.
The PPC 4100 will come with an AC adaptor, USB Cradle, single ear bud headset, a leather pouch as well as a Stylus pen.
