The new SPV C500 smartphone, which runs the Second Edition of Microsoft's Windows Mobile 2003 for Smartphone operating system, weighs only 100 grams (3.5 ounces) and measures a mere 10.8 x 4.6 x 1.6 cm (4.3 x 1.8 x 0.63 in), which is small indeed for a Microsoft-based smartphone. Orange’s first Microsoft-based smartphone, the SPV, in comparison, weight 127 grams (4.5 ounces) and measured 11.5 x 4.6 x 2.2 cm (4.5 x 1.8 x 0.87 in).
The Bluetooth-enabled smartphones offers a 16-bit or 65,536 color display, and includes a 64MB of RAM and a miniSD Card slot for memory expansion. Bluetooth allows the device to be used with wireless headsets as well as other peripherals, such as Bluetooth printers.
Because it is a tri-band (900/1800/1900 MHz) handset, the SPV C500 should allow users to roam the globe and still be able to make phone calls and perform data functions, such as Web and email access. It will also included Windows Mobiles' native MMS client.
As an Orange Signature smartphone, the SPV C500 features a new home screen (offering access to key services), Orange Backup (which allows users to store their personal and business data on the Orange network and restore those details when required), Packet Video player (offering Packet Video’s progressive download service for smoother access to video content) and Orange Update, which allows users to try and download new applications such as ringtones, maps and games. Orange Help is also included as an electronic user guide stored directly on the device.
